Charlie Thompson was only thirteen years old when she lost her life in an horrific train accident. She was already acutely aware of the world around her and was often deeply moved by reports on television and in the media regarding the appalling conditions in which many children and adults live.
It was in her nature to help others and she was drawn to those most in need, both physically and emotionally.
Through a close family friend she was aware of Khandel Light a local charity set up in the year 2000 with a specific aim to help the people and children in and around Khandel, Rajasthan. This is one of the poorest provinces in India. Khandel Light has raised in excess of £270,000 and through its remarkable efforts and the wonderful support of local communities, impoverished villagers in Khandel have benefited from the building of wells, water ponds, housing, improved medical care and most recently the purchase of a school bus to take the local children to school.
Charlie adored children and in her name we are committed to raising money to help educate and support children wherever there is need.
Our first challenge is to raise money to purchase a second school bus for the children of Khandel. If we are successful we will continue to work with Khandel Light to contribute funds towards the improvement of conditions for children who must live and grow up in circumstances beyond the understanding of most people in the West.
With the agreement of Khandel Light, CHARLIE is now a named fund within the Khandel Light charity.
Khandel Light is a registered charity 1083200
